Michael Roberts Dale, 75

Michael “Mike” Roberts Dale passed away on Saturday, May 20, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis at the age of 75.

He leaves his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Jean (Roth) Dale of Indianapolis; his daughter Dr. Elizabeth Dale, 34, (Sarah Anderson) of Seattle; and his brother Steven Dale, 73, (Mary Ann) of upstate New York.

Mike was born on September 11, 1941 to Jane (Roberts) Jones and Charles Dale, Sr. He spent most of his life as a New Jersey resident, earning a bachelor’s of science in Ornamental Horticulture from Delaware Valley College and a masters in Turf Breeding from Rutgers University. With his horticultural background, he worked on golf courses in New Jersey and Connecticut for most of his career.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles Dale.

Mike was an avid bridge player and enjoyed umpiring softball and baseball games and officiating high school track. He loved to play the horses and always had a joke to tell.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 beginning at 6 p.m. at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis, followed by a celebration of life at 7 p.m.  The family invites you to join them for an ice cream social after the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to St. Vincent Hospice (give.stvincent.org) or to Special Olympics New Jersey (sonj.org).

The Tuesday Night bridge game which Mike ran for the Hillsdale, NJ Borough sends their sympathy to Mike’s family. He made it possible for the game to continue and because of him I
continued to play bridge and now help run the same game. We remember his great sense of humor and love for bridge and thank him for his contribution. The game is now in its
40+ year, thanks to Mike’s efforts. Our best to the family.

To Jean & family: Mike was a really great friend. He was a “Diamond”. He was a person I often admired. His quick wit and his encouraging personality will be missed. I always considered Mike and Jean to be my favorite couple. Jean I am with you in your grief. I am going to miss that guy.

Jean, Jeff and I are very sorry for your loss. Jeff got to know Mike better than I, but I enjoyed every occasion I was with him!
